OK, if the OD is at the end of the cable it should be jumpered as Master, the HD in the middle of the cable jumpered as Slave.

It should also work with both drives jumpered as Cable Select if that's supported by the cable and the motherboard port. In that case the master/slave selection is made automatically.

But you've got to look for little notations by the jumper pins to see which pins are used for the different settings.

If the info in that WD document that Greg linked to is correct for your older WD hard drive, to set the HD to Cable Select you would jump pins 1 & 2, to set as Slave you would jump pins 3 & 4.

You should see small notations on the drive itself, usually near the pins, to indicate the different options provided by the jumper pins.

I've got an old 2004 3.5" WD 80 GB drive laying around. The pins match the doc Greg posted, the notations for the pin setup are written on the label on the top of the drive and again on the circuit board on the bottom, just below the pins.

Make sure you get the SATA controller setting the same.

Why was it necessary to spend hours tweaking and hacking your OS disk? This sounds unusual. Tweaking and hacking almost always lead to problems we see here every day.

gregrocker,u r still here, this means to me that you are trying to help and THAT means a lot.But i d like to have specific instructions like:disks on or off,if on,which one or two,IDE cable positions(end/middle),which disk goes where, jumpers where on optical and IDE.And an answer to the question:will BIOS clearing/resetting **** up my OS?

I would not have recommended resetting your BIOS to defaults if it would mess up Win7. I've probably recommended it ten thousand times here. Just take note of the SATA controller setting.

I am not a hardware expert but will ask for more of them to help you.
