Turning start menu into a simple dropdown?

    Hello,
I recently went from Linux back to windows, although the start menu is clunky and excessive, so I was just wondering is there any third party software out there which will allow me to replace the current start menu with a simple dropdown menu, because for the life of me, I can't find any.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Try moving the taskbar to the top of the screen by doing this (this will make the start menu come down from the top of your screen which is slightly similar to the way linux does its menu: Taskbar - Move Location on Desktop Screen
Also, if you don't like the start menu that is in Windows 7, you may want to replace it and the taskbar etc with classic shell: Welcome to Classic Shell

Yes I know about that and already have done so and the classic start menu is not the one I am looking for, I have never liked the either of the start menus. I know their are third party start menus as I have used one in the past, although I can not find a Dropdown Startmenu.

    That looks like Mint.

You should be able to get something quite similar with Classic Shell.

You will need to play around with the settings.

Try no skin, 1 pane and add/delete any items you want and make sure they are set to menu.
