How To Change Logon Screen Background Color (not wallpaper)?

Hi all - my first post here. This site has helped me IMMENSELY with my transition from XP to 7 over the past few years. I always found exactly what I was looking for, but today I am stumped.

In Windows XP, there was an option to change the logon screen background color:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors

You could change the string "Background" to any 3-digit RGB color code you wanted.
(i.e., 0 0 0 = black, etc.)

This color would show up on CTRL+ALT+DEL plus it would show up when you logged in remotely using Remote Desktop.

Changing the logon screen background wallpaper is great when you're physically at the machine (and I've already done this), but you don't see it when you're connecting via Remote Desktop. Instead you're stuck with the OEM blue background color.

The same key I mentioned above does in fact exist in Windows 7, but it doesn't appear to have any effect.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thank you!

Hello and welcome deckard

I guess you know how to change logon screen : Log On Screen - Change

Now, open the logon wallpaper with an image manipulation program like Photoshop, Paint.net or GIMP, change the color as you want and apply it ?

Not quite the thing you are wanting, but the output will work.

Hi and thanks Arc, but again, any of those changes would not show up when logging in remotely as you don't see any wallpaper on the logon screen (even if your connection is set to show desktop wallpaper).

I mean, it's not a show-stopper, but with XP, I got so used to logging into different machines at different sites and knowing instantly where I was by the color of the logon screen. Would love to have this again in 7.

It looks like changing the background color may not possible because it seems to always use a background image.

So, I think a better way to ask this question would be:

Is there any way to Change the Windows 7 Remote Desktop Log On Screen Background?

I found a couple of posts online from people wanting to do this in Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server for pretty much the same reasons I want to do it, but with no solution.
