Custom icons and moving to another computer

Hello. I know basically how to create custom folder icons by going to a folder to "properties" and "customize" "change icon" by using ico formated icons in Windows 7 64bit; but how do you keep the custom icons from disappearing when you move them to another computer? I did find a set of already made icons and they don't disappear when you move them to another computer, so there must be a trick to it. thanks

These are from a long time ago in Windows XP. I don't where they would be now. I downloaded them once. I've saved them over the years. I've used them over and over again for all my computers. Software programmers do it all the time. You get CD with stuff on it and the icons don't disappear.

Have you try it with them icons?

I have never seen that done before, you need to set it up on each pc.

Are you changing folder icons and then you want to move that folder to a other pc and still have the same icon?

It's with external drives primarily. I would like the icons to remain the same as I use different computers with my external drive. It's possible that I may need some software solution. But I know it is possible to create them so they remain the same; otherwise software programs would have a lot of problems being consistent. Also, if you take an icon like a Music, picture, etc icon from Windows, it remains the same no matter where you place it.
