Recycling Bin Custom Icon... Not Refreshing

I know this was a Vista issue as well, but I just tried the icons I'm using on a friend's Vista machine with no problems.

I'm just trying to replace the Recycling Bin icons (full/empty) with something custom but the desktop icon doesn't change between the full and empty states when I add/empty.

Please don't give me the "just revert back to default" fix. An OS like this should be able to have simple icon customization functionality ironed out right?

Hmm I'm having trouble understanding what you mean.

    Goto your desktop -

Right click -> Personalize -> Change desktop icons

Select the Trash Can(Full) replace the icon, then replace the empty one. Also this might help but try making sure the trash can is empty. Once it is get rid of em and then delete a file to confirm the change has worked. Everything should work as normal!

Let me know if you had a different problem or need more help!

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I've got no problem switching the original icons for custom ones, the problem is that the recycling bin doesn't refresh to show whether it's empty or full, it just sits there showing that it's always full (even after I've just emptied it). Does that make more sense?

Well, thank you for making these little guides. Even 7 years later, you've helped somebody fix their problem.
