Alternative Cursors for Windows 7

I was wondering if anyone has made any custom cursors for Win 7 64-bit.

I find the standard cursors in Win 7 & Vista quite dull.

I was quite attached to the 3D Bronze cursor theme in XP and thought maybe an enhanced version of that with the glossy effect would be good - in 3 sizes to cater for big screens.

Tried Cursor FX but the functionality in the free version is very limited.

I'm currently messing with Realworld Cursor Editor but the program is not exactly intuitive to a person who doesn't normally do graphics.

Downloaded a few cursor packs from various sites.
They seem to be either childish or contain malware.

Not a bad idea - I, too, was addicted to Bronze (with Shadow effects) but when I started using Vista full time I just got used to is. I suppose you could just copy the files from XP, but that look is definitely older.

I'll keep my eyes out for modern cursors and animated icons as well....

this is a nice one:

XZ-B-ONE Cursors - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

I'm surprized that with all the eye candy in the works, we don't see a large selection of cursors. I remember cursors being a popular customization in Windows 3.1, and then every body seemed ok with the same dull cursors we have now... which have been around almost 15 years!!

Any other cool mouse cursors out there?

They are good, but being 2004 dated they are a little on the small side for today's big screens.

I downloaded a pack called 19 Windows Mouse Cursor sets from Crazythemes.com
Some of them have potential and some are too small. All seem fairly old.
They have not been set up as cursor theme packs, so you have to add each cursor individually & then save as a theme yourself. I haven't got time for that.

I just want a decent sized (about the same size as the black medium arrow in Win 7), bright cursor set with good visibility.

I saved a simple Yellow/Bronze cursor created with Realworld Cursor Editor but upon reboot, Win 7 defaults back to its standard cursor. I'm yet to figure out how to stop it doing this - probably overlooking something simple.

Slick and Visible

Yeah... Another thing. Microsoft's solution to "visibility" is always "horrendous." Why haven't we seen anything done with cursor trails and effects?

Someone with some programming skill needs to make a cursor that looks like a glass arrow with a flame inside, complete with a smoking cursor trail and appropriate shaddow effects. Having a projected shadow from a user-set "light source" would be great, too.

The "inverted - Large" arrow just looks bad with the rest of windows, and high visibility doesn't have to look bad.

Oh, and the "high contrast" modes don't have to be as ugly as they are, either, but that's a whole other can of worms.

when i installed windows 7 onto my comp it saved some of the files from xp into a folder called "Windows.old" the XP cursors are in that folder. all you would have to do to get the bronze back is to copy the bronze cursors from the .old cursor folder into the windows 7 cursor folder. that is if you upgraded from xp. if not i have attached a .zip file with the bronze colored cursors that were in my .old folder.

FFFFFF welcome to the forum!

I've searched Google and other sites on line (including Stardock) and cannot find anything called StardockWare. Can you please give us a link to the website?
