That rectangle shows up on the icon you previously had selected. Weird how it looks like Windows XP style of selection. It probably does have to do with the theme.

A simple search on Google and I found this:
    Desktop Icon Selection?

With nothing :) Just windows personalization.
Alright. Save your current theme and load the standard theme, or the theme you used as a base to adjust. That works?
Hi, none of your suggestions helped, but thanks anyway.

Still unsolved. The fix Bongo suggested doesn't work because I have a 64-bit operating system. Can someone please give me a working solution? This is really gnawing me.

    Did you use both files?
    Installation:
    1. Unpack the downloaded archive
    2. Use x86 setup for 32bit systems; for 64bit systems, you need to use both files included in the archive.
    3. Log off or restart the PC.

The link doesn't work for me, I get an error. Any idea why?

Now you are saying you didn't use the fix I suggested?

I looked elsewhere for your suggested fix. I was misled by the other downloads available, they weren't the same thing I got from your link. My problem is now fixed, thank you for helping.
