ExplorerFrame.dll, Resource Hacker Help

Hi, I'm having a bit of an issue changing my forward/back buttons.

I'm running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. The buttons came with the theme I'm trying to install (PongMaster Suite)
, along with an x86 ExplorerFrame.dll file, which initially I had tried to put into system32. The site is in Russian btw, but the download button isn't hard to find.

Well, as it doesn't have an x64 .dll file, I decided to manually change the bitmaps using Resource Hacker. I did make myself the owner of the ExplorerFrame.dll files in both system32 and systemWOW64, and got full permissions etc. I also ran the takeownership program and took ownership through that for both dll files.
After I changed the bitmaps in the dll files, nothing changed. I restarted explorer.exe and nothing. Restarted my computer, nothing. I checked the dll files again in Resource Hacker, and the bitmaps that I changed were still there, so I don't know what's going on. Was hoping someone here did. I read a few other ExplorerFrame.dll questions on the forum, but so far got nothing

Help please!

Did you rename the old ExplorerFrame.dll to something like ExplorerFrame.dll.old ? And use their ExplorerFrame.dll ?

ADDED :

Are your 3 dll files patched to use third party themes ? uxtheme.dll, themeui.dll, and themeservice.dll

If not go here Theme - How to Apply Custom Themes

Yes I did.

Also, I forgot to mention one thing: After I copied the original ExplorerFrame.dll from system32 to my desktop, for example, after having changed the bmps, the original shows the newly applied bmps while the copied file does not (it shows the original windows aero bmps). That's not the case with the ExplorerFrame.dll from the systemWOW64 folder, that one still retains the new bmps even in the copy.
When I change the copy's bmps and paste it in the system32 folder and restart explorer.exe, I get the 0xc000007b error and then explorer does not run. When I restart the computer I get a black screen with only my mouse (I can start task manager and use other applications though). To fix that I go to cmd and type sfc.exe/scannow and that fixes the black screen/broken dll file problem.

Welcome to the Seven Forums

I have had trouble in the past with resource hacker, I use Restorator 2007 it does a much better job. I downloaded and extracted to images and imported them into fresh explorerframe.dlls and I have separated them into two folders one is for system32 and one is for SysWOW64 you'll find them on my skydive link below

I also recommend System Restore Point - Create

To properly change a system file you need to take ownership give yourself permission and rename the old file and then copy in the new one look at Post #6 of this thread will tell you how to do it Basic Networking Information
