Classic desktop and Classic start menu Classic desktop and Classic start menu
I was told it was not going to be available with windows 7. As I said it the other thread, that is what I have use since windows 95 and use it for xp currently. I don't know if Vista has it.
I have set where, you can go start button-program-than list of your programs (I use scroll menu).
I set it where almost everything is gray. My eyes are sensitive to really bright stuff. I need everything dull. That is one reason, I use a crt monitor.
Has anyone tried to use themes from xp or Vista on Windows 7 and did it work?
Maybe Axcel216 or Grc will come up with a patch that will allow you to use classic menu.
Even KDE in Linux uses the classic start menu.
It looks like windows 7 may not be for me. I wonder if a Mac would have a classic start menu. This way I can still get Microsoft office. I really like access but cant find an open source program that would work like that. | My System Specs |

Hello gpatrick, and welcome to Seven Forums.
Windows 7 does include a "Windows Classic" theme, but it's not the same classic theme used in XP or Vista. You can see what it looks like in the screenshot of it below in my Windows 7. You'll notice the Start Menu is still the new one in the classic theme in Windows 7.
Hope this helps,

You're welcome. Plus, you can still change the colors for items in the Advanced Appearance Settings (step 7) when using the classic theme to help as well. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built custom OS 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 & Windows 8 Enterprise CPU Intel i7-3930K 3.2 Ghz (O/C 4 Ghz) Motherboard ASRock X79 Extreme11 Memory 32 GB (8GBx4) G.SKILL DDR3 Quad PC3-19200 2400MHz Graphics Card Sapphire HD5870 Eyefinity 6 2GB Sound Card SB Recon 3Di Integrated Chip Monitor(s) Displays 3x 27" Asus VE278Q Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution Mouse Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution PSU OCZ Series Gold OCZZ1000M 1000W Case Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition Cooling Corsair Hydro H100 Hard Drives 256GB OCZ Vector

I guess Microsoft does not want it to look like KDE anymore. (Some Linux KDE version looks like the windows 95 (without the scroll feature). I wander if Microsoft will remove the code that allows it back. Even MS is telling people who like the classic start menu, not to use windows 7. To keep using Vista or Keep using xp. | My System Specs

I found an alternative way if windows 7 still allows custom toolbars.
Find the start menu under your user name.
(You will need to copy some of the files from the all user start menu folder to your startmenu folder, just don't copy the desktop.ini file)
Create a new toolbar and browse to the start menu/programs folder. Choose the programs folder. Shrink the toolbar to the minimum. | My System Specs

If you wanted to, you could also move the toolbar to the left side of the taskbar next to the Start Button like in the Quick Launch tutorial below.
