Q: How to pull Link toolbar off taskbar?

I want to setup a Link toolbar on the right side of my screen to hold shortcuts. I can do this in WinXP by ripping a Link toolbar off the taskbar and sticking it to the right side of the screen.

Problem with Windows 7 is I can't seem to rip a Link toolbar off the taskbar. Can this be done?

I don't want to use StarDock ObjectDock or anything like that. A simple Link toolbar with auto-hide enabled is all I need.

Hi SmokeyMoe, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could create a new folder somewhere to use to create a new taskbar toolbar with for the shortcuts. You would then just place any shortcut you like in the new folder to be displayed in the toolbar.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for replying Shawn.
Solution is ok, but I'd prefer to have a sidebar with big multi-column icons as shown in the XP screenshots above^^. I will live with taskbar only limitation if need be, or will force myself to use a commercial dock if no alternative can be found.

Use Stardock Object Dock for instance. Very customaizable, looks good and a base version is free.

No problem SmokeyMoe, but the only way to get what you want exactly is with a 3rd party program.

Sorry for bringing this up, but i was looking for a way to detach a new toolbar from taskbar but i ended up with the conclusion that Brink gave.. It's not possible. MS removed the function. So the only solution to my prob was on this video i made so i can show the function of the old XP behavior to the new 7 restriction.

Ps. Kudos to 7forums where given cause i want more people to find the right place for help.
I used a software unfamiliar to me so i tried to do my best.
