Custom Windows components (as in XP)

In Win-XP I can modify colors and fonts of Windows Components. eg, caption bar, component colors, etc
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display
Display (Dialog) > Appearance (tab) > Advanced (button)
- then different Windows components can be tweaked
In Win 7/8 ~Display" does not have "Appearance" feature

In Win-7 x32 I fluked it at one stage but I don't remember how?

So many Win components are white.
With multiple windows/dialogs open sometimes it is very difficult to decipher buttons/controls windows/dialogs.
eg, WinExp in Win8 x64 is very white and hardly contrasts with a Word document etc.

How do I get the XP like (my fluked Win7) in Win7 + Win8 ?

Thank you

Hi GrayGhost2,

Maybe someone more proficient in tweaking the apperance of windows would be able to offer better assistance.

However, you can check these tutorials for changing various appearances of windows:

Window Color and Appearance - Enable or Disable Change[2]=Appearance%20Personalize

Theme - How to Apply Custom Themes[2]=Appearance%20Personalize

Control Panel - Change Default Icons[2]=Appearance%20Personalize

Enabling Custom Themes - Windows 7[2]=Appearance%20Personalize

Hope it helps.

Just using Windows classic desktop theme will get you pretty darn close to the x-p look,

Ugrading components and I'm new to Windows 7
I have an HP that I bought in 2008 and I have purchased a new motherboard, cpu, and ram to replace the old ones. None of the old ones are broken, I just felt like upgrading and wanted the experience of doing it myself. I currently have Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit and have purchased the Windows...

Windows 'internal components' don't connect anywhere.
I just recently updated from XP to 7 and everything was fine for a few weeks but that honeymoon seems to come to an end. First symptom was that Messenger couldn't connect, and after a few days I uninstalled it and tried to re-install it. Well, the installer couldn't connect anywhere to get...

Reinstalling Windows Components?

not all components being skinned by custom themes
Hey! I patched the .dlls to run some custom Windows 7 Visual Styles and while they show up in the folder and appear to apply normally, they don't skin everything: namely the Start button. The taskbar itself and windows/buttons seem to all get skinned, as well as the Start Menu, but not the actual...
