Selected desktop icon: blue highlight instead of background rectangle

Hi,

after having a GPU-related BSOD and having to boot in safe mode to solve it, my desktop now doesn't display selected icons the way it used to...

Instead of having a white-rounded translucent background rectangle around the whole icon+text (left), I now have only the old blue-hightlighted text (right), and the rectangle doesn't appear anymore when I hover.

Weird thing is that in Windows Explorer, when the display mode is set to icons, I do have that white-rounded background rectangle, just not on the desktop...

I looked around in the visual effect options (tab in performance settings) where all the boxes are checked, except for "Save taskbar miniatures", and I have no idea if one of those could help me.

I want that rectangle back, thanks for your help !

Try switching to a Aero or Windows 7 Basic theme, when on Windows Classic you get the highlights like in your right screenshot.

Option 2 in this tutorial

Theme - Change or Save

Hi,

Thank you for your answer!

Bongo, when I came back from switching to the safe mode, Aero was indeed turned off, so I had to switch back to my Aero theme. However, the way the icons display their selection is still based on a Windows Classic theme which is what stumps, me along with the fact that the Aero selection works fine in Windows Explorer...

If you have other ideas, I'm listening!

Do Option 2 of this tutorial SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker it will not harm any data or programs you have installed it will try to find and repair any corrupt system files that you have. You may need to do this up to 3 times with a reboot after each scan.

Hi Jerry,

it was simpler than that, I didn't even think to do a reboot after switching back to my Aero theme.
The reboot solved it.

Thanks for taking the time to answer me,
Take care,
Enorah
