Win 7 Professional "Explorer View" changed unexpectedly

    hello guys,

this morning our network was down at work and well, i had to force a hard reset to my laptop. When the pc went back running, it seems that my Win7 explorer folders view of the "main" computer view, has changed, please see the screen cap that i have attached.

basically i still would like to have the view "by type" but those blue lines used to be grey and also at the right hand side of the page now i have these other arrows for expanding or collapsing the view....i checked a colleague computer and he doesnt have that in fact...

I played a bit with settings but cant revert to what i had before... not huge thing but i'd like to have the same i had before...

I would like to have the view back to "normal", see the other screen cap from some random guy i found on google images....it seems those little ^ are on the right hand side instead on the left??

    any ideas / suggestions?

    thanks
    Gab

    Hello Gab,

It looks like you need to click on View (menu bar) and Tiles to return it back to default.

If that should fail, then you could use the tutorial below to restore all folder views back to default including this one.

Folder View Settings - Reset All to Default

    Hope this helps, :)

Actually the problem was the "bags" key in the registry. this post helped me pinpoint the issue :

Disk space usage bar in My Computer is missing (Win7) - Microsoft Community

Disk space usage bar in My Computer is missing (Win7) which in fact was missing!

Ah, ok. That would essentially reset folder views back to default. :)

actually, I was trying to fix another thing, see this Cannot access Network Shared Drives over Corporate Network on Wireless and the PC got stuck when restarting/shutting down.

when it came back, the Explorer view was again "weird" and I had to delete the "bags" key again. do you think that there might be something overwriting the view? some corporate setting perhaps?

    thanks

    Gab,

You might give the tutorial above to reset all folder views a try to see if it may help. It's a bit more thorough than deleting only that one key.
