Desktop List View is a sweet, simple little app for XP & Vista that lets you switch the desktop icons to the same list view used by folders (tiny icons, label to the right, closely stacked).

It no longer works in 64-bit Win 7.

Compatibility mode makes no difference, probably just a different display system. I thrived on it with a lot of desktop project at once. Anything like this that works in 7? Thanks!

    A couple of options:

    ???
Doesn't really have a name or a reputation but, something to try out after a virus scan:

    D-Color XP (Works in 7)
I don't know if this will give you what you want but it's worth a try.

Download D-Color XP 1.2 - The program allows you to change the appearance of the desktop icon text foreground and background colors - Softpedia

Don't worry about the name, it works in 32-bit 7 according to reviews.

Thanks, but it doesn't even appear to launch under 64-bit Windows 7...

Open Windows explorer, right click Desktop in left pane, copy, make new folder, name it "My Desktop" (change icon if you wish), paste copy of desktop in folder, right click taskbar, select new toolbar, navigate to "My Desktop" folder, select it. Now you will have a short cut on your taskbar that will open your desktop in an explrer window and you can view it any way you want,i.e. : list, details, small icon, large, icon etc... . If you want to see icon only on taskbar unlock taskbar, right click empty area under toolbar shortcut and deselect "show title" and "show Icon". I also right click desktop, view, deselect show desktop icons.

Noooo! The download link is bad - any chance you're the author of this app? I was about to post to the blog you linked...

    But thank you!

    I FOUND SOMETHING!

Save Your Desktop Icons Layout and Wallpaper

"Icon Restorer," it actually works in 64-bit Win 7! Fast and easy too!
