    Customize Welcome/Logon screen

    Hi folks

Has anyone found a way to change the "Welcome" screen without downloading a "fix" from the inet?

I've tried creating a jpeg (the correct size) in windows\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds (saved as defaultBackground) and making a chage in the registry to:
HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Authentication>LogonUI>Background... Key OEMBackground value 1 ... but to no avail.

What is interesting is that the original MS background file ((bitmap) in system 32\oobe) that is the welcome screen has security permissions on it .... with Adminstrators only having Read/Read and Execute ONLY... O.O

TrustedInstaller has full rights to it .

    Any suggestions?

Change the file name to: backgroundDefault

Also I noticed after my first reboot that the reg key value changed from 1 to 0 and I had to set it back to 1 again. Not sure why that happened.

You might need to take ownership of the file. See this tutorial
