From what I've noticed the walls are the best part of win-10

The fact is, windows 10 is better than any OS ever available by any vendor, in all respect, not the wallpaper only. :)

Yes, that's it. I also wonder how long it will be before some hacker uses it as a vector to distribute nasties.

I see that we already have the answers to all the questions.
To be in (it is either in or out, no partial in), there is a single term only, a previous qualified OS.
About hardware, all of them that can run a previous qualified OS can run windows 10.

And yet I have been seeing reports of hardware and software that won't run in Win 10.

Windows update has driver to all sort of hardware, so there is no reason that a hardware component will not work. But some already obsolete PnP devices those did not work with even windows 8 does not work with it. Some Creative sound cards and some USB network adapters fall in that list. That is not the fault of windows (either version) but of the hardware vendors that they dont have updated their drivers over years.

And all the common software nicely work with it, at least all those I use and I know others use.
