    Change Windows background colors

The colors of most anything that Windows presents on your screen can be changed - and it is very easy. If you like to experiment with it, you find the instructions here.

If you have blurred pictures on your web app, you can download the instructions from here.

Cool stuff, I may have a play around with that shortly. I've just got to find out what the specific things are I want to change.

    Hey Wolfgang,

Might be something to consider creating a tutorial for.

Right, if there is a general interest, I might do that.

I certainly have an interest mate. I gave it a try last night (for the scroll bar) but it didn't seem to work.

These are basically the colors for items in advanced appearance settings, but done via registry instead.

Colors selected for items will only be used if you have selected a Windows Classic or High Contrast theme. If any other theme is applied, you will not see the color changes for items.

Aah that explains that. Cheers Shawn. Slightly disappointed there as I'd have loved to have changed the white background and scroll bar colours, never mind though!

This method is more important for Windows 8.1 than for Windows 7. In 8.1 you do not have all the facilities of Windows 7.

Yeah, MS removed the UI for this in Windows 8 since no one really used a classic or high contrast theme to be able to use it.

I have this below to be able backup your advanced appearance settings in a Windows 7 computer, and be able to restore them in a Windows 8 computer to effectively set them that way in Windows 8. It's basically an export of those registry settings and a bit more.
