One other tip I forgot to add was that for certain programs such as Microsoft office that do not have the standard type of shortcut, (shortcut is not editable), simply create a manual shortcut, change the icon and pin the shortcut to the taskbar
I used this technique on Firefox and Windows Live Mail and it worked. I assume it will work with other programs. (I was able to then delete the shortcuts from the desktop.)

Now it's just a matter of finding icons that look nice on the W7 taskbar. Thanks!

I too have been having issue with changing the iTunes icon. The icon for the shortcut will change to the desired icon on the desktop. But when i go to start up the program, the default icon for itunes returns next to the custom icon that I pinned to the taskbar. I am wondering if this is because of the jumplist that is integrated into iTunes because I could get this to work for firefox, but not for itunes.

cutiger, I have that same issue. The dock icon is fine, but once I run iTunes, the regular icon pops up. I just deal with it I guess. But I need help with the Microsoft Office programs, I can't seem to edit their icons!!! Help!! I go into the c:\\ drive and program files and all that, then I find the Microsoft Office folder, but everything in there is a shortcut. I can't find where the actual program files are.

    Edit:

I also want to know how to change the folder icons for my folders. Music, Pictures, Videos, Documents, all those system folders, and also the regular folder icon (like the icon that shows up when I make a new folder).

Problems with changing icons in W7 dock...

I just got a new comp with windows7 and wanted to change some icons for programs like media player, etc. I got them to change for the start menu, desk top, and task bar at bottom, but when I try to send to the dock up top, it changes the icon to a generic utility pic! I tried deleting and adding again to the dock, I created my own shortcut as well, but always the same. When it gets to the dock, it turns into a blah icon. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks for any info.

Hi Evan. Welcome to the forums. Is it a Dell, with a dock preinstalled ?

Better you use ObjectDock or RocketDock.

    They are easy to customize.

Hi Archie! Thanks for the response. Yep, it's a Dell 1545 with the dock preinstalled. I am new to doing all this kind of stuff, but that's how I have learned to do it myself,LOL. I'm a gal that likes to Pretty up her puter, and most icons r junky looking. If I download one of the docks from ur links will it just replace the dock or will it show me how? I'm really green at this kind of thing, but I learn pretty quick,LOL. Also, will it let me change icons for downloaded programs like Tubesucker, etc? Any info will be great and thanks 4 the links!

    Look at my dock
    Dock Icons-capture.jpg

It's objectdock. Icons are some collected, some manipulated. But looks nice. You can do it like this ... or any other look, as you wish. First you are to disable dell dock from startup (Press win +R simultaneously, type "msconfig" in the resulting box and hit enter. Click on "startup" in the resulting window, and uncheck the box at the left of Dell dock) .

Now install objectdock. It looks cool by default. If you want further customization, it will be done after installation.

And as you like customize and beautify your desktop, we discuss about desktop customization here : https://www.sevenforums.com/customiza...ktops-4-a.html . Have a look
