How can I restore my original explorer.exe?

I was installing a theme and I accidently replaced the explorer.exe in my Windows folder without creating a backup. I do not have any restore points. Everything works fine, it's just that I want to go back to my original explorer.exe with the default start button (that SHOULD be the only change).

    What are my options?

EDIT: Will "sfc /scannow" catch the changed explorer.exe?

look for a backup (explorer.bak) or run sfc /scannow in admin command prompt

Thank you. Scanning restored the start button.

Another way to do this. I messed up my explorer.exe and Windows said it was invalid.

What I did was Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open task manager, then the "New Task" button. I typed "cmd" in the box to open the command prompt.

I used the "dir" command in my C:\Windows folder and saw that Windows had created a explorer.backup.exe for me in case I needed it. Useful.

Simply navigate to C:\Windows, "del explorer.exe" if it exists, then "rename explorer.backup.exe explorer.exe" to rename it to the main one. Then just type "explorer"

I have a similar problem, I recently installed a 3rd party theme called Dark Agility that altered my explorer.exe, explorerFrame.dll and shell32.dll. I already tried using cmd command sfc /scannow and although I am an admin keeps telling me that I don't have admin rights! I considered restoring to default system settings, since it has a recovery partition since i bought the thing I am worried about the damage will do to my files and settings! thanks in advance.

Welcome to Seven Forums Michigr. You ran the command prompt as admin as stated in the tute?

Start> In search box type cmd> Right click on cmd.exe in results above and choose Run as administrator

Follow the rest of the tute.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If you are doing that already, post a screenshot of the error you receive.
