Custom boot animations gone after latest Microsoft update.

Hello, since yesterday's update which updated the .Net framework, it patched over my custom boot animation I originally had on there back to Microsoft's default logo. I originally used the program "Windows 7 Boot Updater" to change it in the first place.

I tried patching the boot animation again but it no longer works. Is there any possible way to get my custom boot animation back? Any help is appreciated

I'll second this, same thing happened to me. Is there any way to reset the Windows 7 boot screen to default at least? Right now it's the old plain progress bar from Vista.

Let me 3rd this. Updated today and my customizations are gone. "Windows 7 Boot Updater" gives an error message now as well.

I spoke directly with the guy who made the product and he confirmed there will indeed be an update.

Important Note: As of Oct 14 2014 the Windows Update "Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2949927)" breaks the W7BU. Do not install this update at the moment, and if you have installed it try executing wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:2949927 from "Run" (WinKey+R) to remove it. An update to the patch definitions in W7BU will be released in the coming days.
While generally I wouldn't suggest removing a security update just to get this to work. That update was pulled by MS

This update has been removed from the Download Center because of an issue with the update. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available. We recommend that customers who are experiencing issues with this update uninstall this update. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Control Panel, click Programs and Features, and then click View installed updates.
Select "Security update for Microsoft Windows (KB2949927)" and then click Uninstall.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2949927

MS did pull that patch, but not for this reason. It's likely it is doing what it is designed for in breaking W7BU (not the reason for it, but the type of thing it was designed for).

Microsoft yanks botched patch KB 2949927, re-issues KB 2952664 | InfoWorld

I did uninstall it myself just now, but haven't rebooted to confirm the boot animation is back.

       Warning
See posts below, at least one person had his windows rendered unbootable after uninstalling the update

I uninstalled the update, but once I clicked to restart I've been stuck on "Preparing to configure Windows.. Do not turn off your computer" for about a half hour. Can I hard reset or should I wait it out?

After a 45 min wait I finally rebooted.. Into a startup repair loop. I will now have to format and reinstall Windows. Results may vary, but may I advise NOT uninstalling the security update mentioned above.

Sorry to hear that, it worked for me. Good advice to not try if you don't have system images. I actually did an image restore due to another issue. I think I'll leave the update be, and just wait for the program update. A Guy

P.S. thej762000, had you by chance run disk cleanup after patch tuesday?

    * I have a system image, but it was time for an overhaul anyway. I just didn't want to have to do it right now.

    * I probably ran a cleanup after the patch.

    * After I reinstalled and ran Windows Update again Win7BootUpdater works fine.

I asked because Disk cleanup will remove superseded updates, possible breaking things if you uninstall the newer one. Just a possibility. A Guy
