changing what program is used?

    I think it is better to try the "open with" context menu. If you just click on "Edit", the selected picture will open with paint, if you have GIMP installed, there will be a context menu "open with GIMP". But with the "open With" menu, you are allowed to open your picture with any installed photo editing program. If your desired program is not there in the open with options, browse for it, from the next time it will be there.

    I understand the persuasion to use the existing "easy" option, but I know the functionality that OP is asking about was present in pre-7 Windows, and either MS had a pretty good reason to remove it, or they obscured it...

    If anyone has a hunch where it might be, then that would be useful!
