Different logon / logoff screens
I now have my own logon/logoff screen backgrounds, which is very pleasing. However it occurs to me to wonder whether it is possible to have different backgrounds for logon and logoff?

Hello and welcome Toby mate first I have got to ask if the backgrounds are fine now why do you need to know how to change those screens presuming that you set them up in the first place??
I have to say too that having a logon screen would be ok for the length of time that the logoff takes is it really worth the hassle of setting it up?? Or do you have an extremely long logoff tiem??
Thanks for your interest but it maybe you misunderstood my question, or I phrased it poorly.
My custom background for logon/logoff works perfectly and as you suggest, displays for about 40 seconds. My question was perhaps esoteric: Is it possible to have a different background for EACH of the login and logoff screens, simply to find out if/how it can be done?
Well I don't know Toby it probably is but as I have never dabbled in that feature I think it need some of the others who have to put you on the right path:)
Thanks for your interest and if you keep watching, perhaps we'll both learn something new
Yep well there is always something to learn Toby and while one stays subscribed to a thread one always gets the email notification so no worries over keeping up with the topic.:)
For my two bits worth, it would seem that the background image is used for multiple screens. I think this following information is what I got from Brinks. I copied and pasted it into my NFO files on my PC for reference:
"The log on screen consists of the Following Screens:
Welcome Screen
Ctrl+Alt+Del Screen
Shutdown Screen
Lock Computer Screen
Switch User Screen
Log On Screen
Log Off screen
'Hope this helps!
Many thanks for your response. That seems to conclusively answer my question ...
Welcome Screen
Ctrl+Alt+Del Screen
Shutdown Screen
Lock Computer Screen
Switch User Screen
Log On Screen
Log Off screen
Well you must forgive an old fellows ignorance but I have no idea what that is all about
The best quick definition of those screens is simply screens with the same background, but in that these different screens give you different options to get back to your desktop or go somewhere else or do something else.
Welcome Screen is just the PC telling you it is revving up and about to get you to the logon screen
Ctrl+Alt+Del Screen is I think a means to be able to log on to the hidden administrator account or any other hidden account. This is engaged at the logon screen with the username showing. When these combinations are pressed, the user name disappears and an empty user name field and password field appears for you to type in the invisible user and password. (I may be wrong).
NOTE: I also think that if you hit the same keys but in the combination ALT + CTRL + DELETE that you get another screen with the listed options to: Lock this Computer / Switch User / Log off / Change a password / Start Task Manager... but note that getting to this screen must be done from being logged in already.
Shutdown Screen is just the PC telling you it is shutting down after you engage shutdown "Shutting down..."
Lock Computer Screen is what you see when you press Windows Key (the Flag icon key) + L and you go to a screen that says your account (you, the user) is locked, with another option below that to switch user
Switch User Screen is when you select "Switch user" and see all unhidden users and select the one you want to switch to, or you can get there via the Lock Computer Screen
Log On Screen is self-explanatory
Log Off screen kind of has me stumped, but I am certain it is very close in similarity along the lines of these other options
Background is the same on all of these
Hope that helped!
