Windows 7: Win Explorer Background Change

OK, here are some screen shots of the "no glass" problem.

After carefully saving the original file, I used XVI32 to replace all instances of "FC FC FC" in c:\windows\resources\themes\aero\aero.msstyles with "C6 C6 C6" . (C6C6C6 is a nice neutral gray). I did not mess with Restorator, or extracting NORMAL.res (in any case that produces a similar result).

After selecting the landscape Aero theme via Personalize, the result is this:


Strange. Not only are the backgrounds still harsh white, but there is no "glass" effect.

SO, I put back the original aero.msstyles, and the "glass" returns.

Although smoke and flames are shooting out of my ears from frustration , I will not give up!

Can someone make a Clear+Simple guide of what i need to do step by step?

Im stuck with white background (at say "C:/Windows" folders etc)

I want a greyish one instead to match the rest of my theme

Thanks Six9siX to help us with our problem of the white background. It didn't work for me in my Windows 7 v.6.1 Edition Familial Premium I have proceeded with both: a copy of your Aero.msstyles from your Basic&Aero.rar and a copy of the Windows 7 original. I've lost the transparency in both cases from executing the same steps in the same Classical-theme:

1) Save a copy of aero.msstyles in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero\
2) Open aero.msstyles in Restorator.
3) Extract the Variant\Normal in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero\NORMAL.res
4) Open NORMAL.res in XVI32.
5) Edit (FC FC FC) for my two different colors at adresses Hex: 0E188 and 2C1E0.
6) Save NORMAL.res in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero\
2) Reopen aero.msstyles in Restorator from C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero\
7) Assign edited NORMAL.res from C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero\
9) Save and log off.

10) Log in.
11) Change my Classical-theme for an Aero theme.

Results in both cases, e.g. your and the original copies of aero.msstyles in step 1:

No transparency and same color in the left and right panes of the Explorer

I hope I did a mistake instead of not working in Windows 7 v.6.1 Edition Familial Premium!!

I'm just trying to change the Explorer background color to Antique White. Every other application in Windows is using Antique White background now. But Explorer keeps coming up white. I even killed it in Task Manager. No joy!

Why is it this difficult? Geez!

edit: I even edited the theme to set window to the RBG for antique white. No dice.

Hmmmmmmmmm, tried Windows7 Background Changer. Will do just about everything but Computer. Sheesh!!

edit: I made a small image of AntiqueWhite proportional to my desktop and use that. It's only 1 kb. Seems the background changer needs to stick something in the folder. Probably uses desktop.ini but apparently Computer won't let you create any files. So stuck with bright white!

edit2: took the easy way out and returned to a brighter wallpaper. I already have QTTabBar dll messing with Explorer as it is.

I can't even remember what I used to change mine.

It's probably a theme with a shell dll. I'm kind of reluctant to go that route. The more things that mess with Explorer the flakier it gets.

It's incredible when you think of it that since Win95 there's still no option to change Computer background.
