Windows 7: Win Explorer Background Change

No, what I meant was, I don't remember which code I changed. The background color was changed through a combination of resource editors etc. It was about six different locations in the file I changed.

I gotcha'. I played around with Shine XP theme and reshacker for a long time before I gave up. It was a nice looking theme but centering the captions on the title bar just took away all wiggle room.

In the meantime I used VistaGlazz. I tried Green Spirit. The Explorer window background was nice but some of the fonts are just too hard to read, even after enlarging the ones I could. The themes I found seem to either be normal white for Explorer or so black you can't read anything. Somebody must be using braille touch screen!

If it's unmoded normal.res U are looking for FC FC FC (white color)
and replace it with ever U want
Exact addresses are for Win7x64 ultimate don't know if the other versions are the same but worth the try.

There are about 130 places for FCFCFC but only 5 u need to change.

Restorator - for extracting/importing normal.res
XVI32-for editing normal.res
Photoshop - for replacing RGB in to hex colors

I have 32 bit Windows. For that address it shows CD 00 00. I don't think it's the same ballgame.

Did U extracted normal.res from aero.msstyles
or just opened aero.msstyles in hex editor?
If normal is not extracted the address is different.
Try in hex editor click on find string and enter FC FC FC and see what happens
Addresses for x64 in picture I get 1,2,3,4,5 when searching for strings fcfcfc E188,23038,23060,23088,2C1E0.
But if U put aero and try to search for strings there are a lot of fcfcfc.
If show only 5 on extracted normal.res U good to goo just compare the addresses for x64.

I extracted according to your procedure using the trial version of your tool. In any case the only reason I'm trying to do this is so that I can use Fractal Flames wallpapers. Windows with white background is just too stark. I just have to use different wallpaper.

Windows Explorer Background Changer works for most Explorer folders. I set a "paper" snippet as the background image. Only problem is it uses a .dll and that destabalizes explorer. As it is I'm using QTTabBar yet another .dll. The Explorer tabs are more important to me than the colors. I'll just have to live with white background windows.

I appreciate your responses and time though. Thanks for trying to adjust it for me.

I can change that with Windows Style Builder give me the RGB you want & a name for it I will make a custom theme.

VistaGlazz worked but I didn't use it long enough to see if it was flaky.

Right now I'm using AveFolderBG updated for Windows 7. Works in folders right hand pane but not in Computer or Documents. So far it seems stable though. I'm just using a 1 kb antique white image as the background image. I do notice though that QTTabBar seems to get flakier when I use another explorer .dll. I do a lot with Explorer rather than using a 3rd party file manager so the tabs are more important than the colors.

btw the RGB for Antique White is 250 235 215. I took VistaGlazz off and it didn't seem to break anything. Guess I could try it again.

Don't use VistaGlazz use 1 of these 2 ways of Enabling custom themes for it to work.
