I also found that Chromium Speed Dial window uses a background color of 247 247 247 rgb. It looks pretty close to white but just a tad subdued. Good for other windows like browser and editors.

I added that value as background color to Chromium and Firefox user css files.
Also you can have it be the default color of editor and other window backgrounds by setting this registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\Colors

in the right pane set
Window to the value 247 247 247 (or whatever else you prefer) by right clicking then Modify.

It's especially good if you have your browsers set to open to a blank page. Cuts down the glare. Once you load in a real page it will act normally.

Hmmmmm, don't know what's going on but every time I log off, then log back in with Antique White theme, I lose Aero. It goes to basic theme and I have to restore registry from an ERUNT save to get Aero back. Really weird.

What did you use to enable custom themes?

Using unsigned theme service as in Brink's tutorial(ux styles) Funny thing is I don't seem to have a problem if I shut down. Only if I log off, then log in. I'm using QTTabBar and with grid lines it takes some of the glare off. I could use a 3rd party file manager but I have a lot of utilities that launch Explorer. Since it just clones explorer in memory it's a much faster load than some other exe off the disk.

I'm asking the Author of QTTabBar if he can color every other line in Details view why can't he set the background color? He says he uses the background changer app on his own machine(you know the one where you stick in a background image but it doesn't work in root folders. Some jazz with desktop.ini.)

Doesn't make sense to me but... ??

edit: here's where QTTabBar gets me:

What I don't get is if he can color every other line, then why not every line? Maybe a faint blue and light yellow alternation would be ideal. It's probably not your theme causing the log out problem. Could be using 2 things that mess with shell at the same time.

I have had to go to Services and stop and start the Unsigned Theme service a few times when I have lost Aero.

Thanks for the tip. I thought it was weird that initializing the theme again didn't work. Had to do ERDNT. I'll try the service restart next time.
