    icon problem

Just installed Windows 7 and i tried to change a few folders icon but for some unknown reason i can't change it. I've deleted the desktop.ini file in every folder but i still can't change it on some folders.
Why is this happening, how can i solve it and why does it affect random folders ?

Hello Womz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if you may be able to change the folder icon using the method below.

    Hope this helps,

    That's the method i used.
What i notice is that if i create a new folder and move an old folder content in it i can change it's icon.
So i can change icons in all newly created folders and on some old folders.

When you click Change icon navigate to the shel32.dll file or imageres.dll

These are the most common icons in Windows 7

Try deleting the icon cache, known as
    IconCache.db

For the bigger folder icon views you also need to clear the thumbnail cache. to do this, run 'disk cleanup' from the start-menu for the system drive and select 'Thumbnail Cache'.

I deleted the icon and thumbnail cache but it still doesn't work. I installed a new game and i can't change its folder icon. This made things even weirder because changing icons used to work on all folder i create after windows 7 installation.
I'm using Windows 7 Professional downloaded from MSDNAA.

    Womz,

What's the folder's location, and could you upload (paperclip icon while editing your post) a copy of the icon in a ZIP that that you are using to see if that may it as well?

The icon file is not the problem. I've used the same icon on different folders, in some it changed in others it didn't.

I found this to be buggy in Vista. It seems to be in Windows 7 as well. Usually creating a shortcut to it, and changing the shortcut's icon works best if that is a viable option for you.
