    You can check this for windows gadgets :
    Sidebar Gadget on DeviantArt
    or this
    idem on VistaGadget.fr

    As said above, you can try Rainmeter, very smart but not so easy to configure, according to me...

    And let's quote also Yahoo Widgets, some are cool too...
