Folder Customization Question

Hi All:
How can I change the property of a single explorer folder without all other folders being affected with the same change? For example, on the folder which I keep all the shortcuts for my programs, I want to eliminate the navigation pane on the left. I can do this using the Organize/Layout tab on this folder. However, now every other folder (documents, music, photo's etc.) have no navigation pane. Also, if I resize one folder, all other folders open the same size. Is there a setting or a way to change a single folder's properties without affecting all others? I could do this in XP, but can't find the proper setting in Win 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
