    Windows 7 wallpaper resizing

hey guys im very new to windows 7 and was just wondering if i could get a bit help with resizing the wallpaper image. I have windows 7 home premium running on my compaq (HP) presario laptop. When i select a photo for the wallpaper it stretches it out even if the photo is a potrait one, which means it cuts off heads of people and so on. I have tried going into control panel> appearance and personalisation> personalisation> desktop background> and tried to change the picture position to fit or centre or anything other then stretch but it wont change anything, the wallpaper stays the same. Anyone have any ideas? i have a feeling it may be a problem with windows or something. My dad is running windows 7 home premium on his home pc and i can change the wallpaper settings on it no problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

right click on the image file you want to use as a wallpaper and select edit, which opens the image in MS Paint. click on resize. Select pixels at the top of the box that pops up. Uncheck the maintain aspect ratio box at the bottom of the pop up, then type in the screen resolution your display is set at. Click the disk icon to save it. Then right click on the file again and select Set as desktop background

thanks mate. that works but isnt exactly what i want to do. I want to be able to have a photo as my desktop background that is portrait but with like a space either side of the picture if you get me? It wont let me change the picture position when I go into the desktop background settings. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks

OK.. then what you should do is resize the image to leave enough blank space on each side, save it, then create a blank background the size of your screen, fill it with the color you want for a background. Then copy and paste your resized image onto a blank background and center it. that will give you a centered image with space either side. the pictures are not a perfect example but if you practice it a little, you'll get it

Here is an easy fix that you don't have to install anything. It simply changes a couple reg entry's. You can read more about it on the link.

Go Control Panel->Appearance and Personalization->Personalization->Desktop Background and choose the "center" option or whatever option that you would like to use.
