    Show Icons as Vertical List

    Hi,
How can I get the icons in the taskbar to show as a vertical list instead of a horizontal list, without having to move the taskbar to the left or right of the screen?
It would be great if the list came up in the same way as it does when you right-click on the icon.
I have many Excel files that begin with the same description and when it shows in the horizontal list, you cannot see what the ending is eg Income Dept A, Income Dept B, etc
    Thanks.

Brink has it here if you want to see all the txt. But I think the only way you could do it vertically would be to have a massive taskbar. Maybe a folder on the desktop, with the excel files, would work for you?

right click taskbar, uncheck lock the taskbar. then drag taskbar to left or right side of screen to make it verticle.

    Hi Davehc,
Tried various widths per Brink's thread, but it also does not really help. Tried as high as a width of 140. It does what you want when you have about 11 workbooks open, but as soon as you start closing the workbooks, it reverts to a horizontal list again, and this time the icons are blank so you have to hover over the file until it shows the name.
They need to have some sort of fix so that it stacks and lists like the XP taskbar did.
Maybe I just need to try and get used to having the taskbar sitting on the right side of the screen??
    Thanks.

I hate the taskbar on the sied, but that is a personal matter. I know little about your particular work, but I assume the files are all in one folder?
Could you not make a shortcut to the folder, on the desktop?

The taskbar is a pain in the A on the side and I don't think I will get used to it after a decade or so of Windows old taskbar.
Unfortunately not all the files are in the same sub-dir/folder. I usually Alt-Tab between the windows, but on occasions I need to have about 10-plus open and is not always quicker to Alt-Tab, but rather to go to the taskbar.
Maybe someone will discover some sort of script to make it show a list.

There must be something somewhere that controls it going to a list when there are more than 10 files open??

You can change the registry. Then you have 2 files and more in a list.

If it is not too private, I would love to see a screenshot of what you now have. I can't create (what I think) was the problem, and am intrigued.
