W7 Resources, transparency/hue?

Hi!

I've been working on customizing my workspace and fiddling around in Restorator. I've successfully replaced my start orb and I understand how it handles bmp transparency, but I don't understand how msstyles files handle png transparency.

Here's a screenshot showing the results of what I've done so far: click

I got the taskbar white space and area under the start orb and clock transparent by filling the 1x3 resource with black at 10% transparency, which worked, but it wouldn't work with any color but black. If I used yellow at a low opacity it would just be bright yellow when I applied it.

I've tried alpha channels but that doesn't seem to help either. What am I doing wrong?
