Show Desktop Icons won't stay unchecked

    Hi yall,

Everytime I uncheck Show Desktop Icons, it will stay unchecked up until I restart my PC or install new software, then they will reappear. I don't like seeing them and I want to be able to store things on the desktop but just not see them. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium X64. Its an OEM Asus version that came on my new laptop. If anyone knows how to make them stay permanently hidden, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Hello Corey,

You might see if doing either method in OPTION ONE in the tutorial below may help with saving your theme after making the settings.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Brink:

I tried both methods and they still keep coming back everytime I restart. I don't get it. Is it a 7 glitch or is it something to do with Asus? This has me so puzzled.

Did you also save your theme afterwards?

If so, as a test, create a new administrator account to see if it works properly in it.

yup, ever since i got the pc, about 2 weeks ago. I looked on some other sites to see if anyone else had this problem and someone else touched on that it could be a problem with the Asus OEM version of 7 Home Premium (X64).

Could be, but unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to do a factory restore of it.

Actually, I tried that about a week ago, just to see. I guess what I'm going to do, is just move the files and folders that I have saved there to an alternate location and just delete all shortcuts.
