Screen savers I have tried to install two different screensavers and both failed, with a message that the file for them couldn't be found. When I looked where I expected them to be, as it was in XP (C:Windows) I couldn't find them or the native screensavers either. How does one install a custom screensaver

How does one install a custom screensaver In XP, they go in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32. It should be a .scr file. Then it should show up in the screensaver dropdown list. I gave up on one screensaver, an installed a similar one. The other had a different error than I thought, it wasn't looking for one of it's own files, but one called D3DDX9_37.dll. That appears to be something associated with DX9, so it's no wonder that it can't find it. That's the Nvidia Physx screensaver, so you would think that they would keep it up to date. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DIY OS W7x64 Pro, SuSe 12.1/** W7 x64 Pro, XP MCE CPU Phenom II 1090T w/Noctua NH-D14 /**4400+ X2 w/CM Hyper TX 3 Motherboard ASRock 890FX Deluxe 4/**A8N-SLI Memory 2 x 2GB Patriot PGS34g1600LLKA/**4x1GB Corsair VS Graphics Card EVGA GTX460 SC/**EVGA 8800GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar D2X/**Xonar D1 Monitor(s) Displays Acer X233H, Dell E152FPc /**LG M237-WD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 & 1024x768/**1980x1080 Keyboard Logitech Media USB/**Saitek Eclipse Mouse Cordless Trackman Wheel/**Ditto PSU CM RS600 w/ APC BX1000G/**Antec 500 TP w/ APC BX1000 Case HAF922/**Antec 1040IIB Cooling 3x200mm, 1x140 and 1x120mm/**5x80mm fans Hard Drives WDC 2TB, 1.5TB, 1TB, 500GB,Seagate 500GB , Maxtor 80GB /**500GB Seagate & WDC 1TB Black Internet Speed 3.3Mbps Other Info SB 560 5.1 w/ Sennheiser RS140/**Creative T20 speakers, Dvico FusionHDTV7 Gold RT, Cisco E3000, HP 5510V AIO, Linksys E3000, Belkin F5U237 hub and **F5D8055 adapter

Ah. That DLL is necessary to display some DX9 elements. I think I know your problem. Download DX9 from the Microsoft website and install it. That would probably fix your issue. Some apps and games won't run or display properly on 7 without that, such a Hitman Blood Money. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 3.0GHz Motherboard ASUS M4A785-M Memory 4GB A-Data DDR2 Graphics Card PNY GeForce 460 GTX 1GB OC - Enthusiast Edition Sound Card VIA High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell 19" Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 2000 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000 Case ASUS Cooling Corsair Builder Series CX V2 500-Watt Hard Drives 250GB Western Digital WD2500JB (IDE) - Main

No this is on my Windows 7 installation, so I already have DX11 as it is. I know that I have been told that it is okay for lt to let games install older versions of DX, but I don't particularly like the idea. It was really just curiosity that made me want to install that screensaver anyway. As I said, it would seem that Nvidia would keep their screensaver up to date, since it is sort of a demo of Physx, which is one of their latest adopted features. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DIY OS W7x64 Pro, SuSe 12.1/** W7 x64 Pro, XP MCE CPU Phenom II 1090T w/Noctua NH-D14 /**4400+ X2 w/CM Hyper TX 3 Motherboard ASRock 890FX Deluxe 4/**A8N-SLI Memory 2 x 2GB Patriot PGS34g1600LLKA/**4x1GB Corsair VS Graphics Card EVGA GTX460 SC/**EVGA 8800GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar D2X/**Xonar D1 Monitor(s) Displays Acer X233H, Dell E152FPc /**LG M237-WD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 & 1024x768/**1980x1080 Keyboard Logitech Media USB/**Saitek Eclipse Mouse Cordless Trackman Wheel/**Ditto PSU CM RS600 w/ APC BX1000G/**Antec 500 TP w/ APC BX1000 Case HAF922/**Antec 1040IIB Cooling 3x200mm, 1x140 and 1x120mm/**5x80mm fans Hard Drives WDC 2TB, 1.5TB, 1TB, 500GB,Seagate 500GB , Maxtor 80GB /**500GB Seagate & WDC 1TB Black Internet Speed 3.3Mbps Other Info SB 560 5.1 w/ Sennheiser RS140/**Creative T20 speakers, Dvico FusionHDTV7 Gold RT, Cisco E3000, HP 5510V AIO, Linksys E3000, Belkin F5U237 hub and **F5D8055 adapter

I know. You still need to install DX9.0c. It won't overwrite DX11, it just adds the DX9 dlls to your installation so you can run DX9 apps. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 3.0GHz Motherboard ASUS M4A785-M Memory 4GB A-Data DDR2 Graphics Card PNY GeForce 460 GTX 1GB OC - Enthusiast Edition Sound Card VIA High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell 19" Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 2000 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000 Case ASUS Cooling Corsair Builder Series CX V2 500-Watt Hard Drives 250GB Western Digital WD2500JB (IDE) - Main

My interests in games has waned somewhat as of late, but if I get a yen to play one that requires DX9, most of them want to install it themselves anyway, so I doubt that I will bother.
