How to change the ugly pastel blue window look-feel?

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if someone could show me how to change windows 7's pastel-blue motif in any given window's background. It's easier to show what I mean (please see pic).
I'd like a light gray background. I've looked through the advanced options in the theme and it does not appear to be able to change what I want. Is this like an unchangeable windows 7 look and feel? I'm pretty sure that it's not.
I am also eager to change this behavior in Eclipse, and someone said that the default pastel blue for java is also tied to the underlying system, and that's why it's pastel blue.

Pastel print
How do you make the print on the screen darker everywhere in Windows 7? I can hardly read the writing. Is there a setting that I missed out on? XP used bold black on the screen for writing, but I can hardly see the print in Windows 7.

Pastel Wallpapers?
Most of the wallpapers I see with Windows7 Themes are way too dark. The Explorer window white background glares in contrast. Are there any nice pastel wallpapers? I'm using this one I made myself. But I'm bored with it. But I'd still like something in the same color range. Not dark purple,...
