viper is right. the issue is not resolved. resolved in a forum implies closed.

I need each folder to also remember its LAYOUT settings, specifically, whether or not the navigation pane is enabled (Organize --> Layout --> Navigation Pane). Folders remembered all their settings in XP (once the "BagMRU size" registry tweak was applied, that is!!). I need the same behavior in Windows 7.

The reason is that I use a half-dozen folders on the desktop to store program icons. For example, I have a folder named "Games" that contains icons to run about 50 different games (Yes, I know this harks back to Program Manager in Windows 3.1 -- I've been using Windows since 1982!). I want the Games folder to contain nothing but icons in just the Details pane. But whenever I run Windows Explorer with the navigation pane turned on, it also gets turned on in the Games folder.
now you have it right.

The transparency features and options are nice - but if it won't remember the position and size, it is of little use.

You should be able to select the Window, pull down the menu, open the control panel and select remember size and position when closed. As simple as that. If you have to enter pixel sizes and coordinates for every window and folder - it's just not worth it.

How STUPID was Microsoft for leaving the "windows" function out of Windows 7?

Send and email to advocate@microsoft.com telling them we want the feature back along with a "classic" simple menu.

I tested WindowsManager out and found it to NOT work all the time.
Now I am using ZMover and so far it has been 100%. Free 30 day trial.
I am having no problem with window manager remembering on Windows 7 x67 check to make sure you dont have a blank caption and class in your special windows but i may check out zmover just for fun

Check to make sure nothing (protection software) is stopping the 2 needed "windowmanger" processes that are needed from starting up with Windows.

I mostly have all this sorted out with a combination of Zmover and WindowManager. WindowManager handles my normal positioning while Zmover handles all the stuff that won't stick - generally the position of my application Windows across my quad monitor setup.

Some things still don't work right, for Example Firefox always creates new windows on monitor 4 even when I drag out a tab to another monitor, but at least it's somewhat functional now. Still it's silly to have to shell out $30 across two applications just to manage your desktop. Hopefully MS will get this sorted out soon or will at least publicly address the topic.

Why aren't thousands of people posting in this topic by now?
Is it because windows 7 sucks so much that people didn't get it again, or is it because everybody uses a single window for the whole os? Or maybe there is a much more popular forum that deals with this thing and I don't know about it?

This was voted "Best Windows Website 2009" so there is no popular Windows based website past this one

Second this issue is neither showstopper or important for that matter. If this issue prevented you from physically using the OS (not mentally) than I would understand.

If you don't like it than either contact Microsoft and complain, use a different OS, or suck it up and learn to live with it. I don't mean to sound harsh but you are thinking only of your issue and not of how this issue relates to the whole...you are being single-minded

That is a rude reply. This is supposed to be a helpfull fourm.
This is a big issue for many, espcially those with multi monitor setups.

There is a difference between being rude and telling the truth...

I understand it is an issue for a group of folks...but it isn't an issue that is a priority for Microsoft (rest assured on that)

I don't sugarcoat the truth
