    Change default image editor

Hi there, I have just purchased a new laptop today running W7.

I have changed the default image viewer to Irfanview from within Irfanview's preferences. This works fine and when I double-click an image file it opens in IrfanView.

I also want to change the default image editor (for image file right-click/Edit) to PhotoFiltre. I have changed the following registry key:

    HKCR\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command

    to "C:\PortableApps\PhotoFiltre.exe" "%1".

This doesn't seem to be working though. When I right-click an image file and select Edit, the 'Open with' window opens. If I browse to PhotoFiltre.exe and don't check 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file', the file opens in PhotoFiltre but the next time I right-click/Edit the 'Open with' window opens again. If I browse to PhotoFiltre.exe and check 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file', the file opens in PhotoFiltre but PhotoFiltre is then set as the new image viewer as well.

I hope that all makes sense. How can I get a separate image viewer and editor? Cheers for any help.

Apply this reg file and you will get a context menu entry to edit with PhotoFiltre.exe.

Double click will open with the viewer based on Irfanview file associations and right click gives you the option to edit with PhotoFiltre.exe based on this reg.

Alternatively you can create a Send To shortcut

    or

Open with Notepad - Add or Remove from Context Menu of Files

Hi NilsE, Awesome! Thanks for that! I'm running a portable version of PhotoFiltre so I had to tweak the reg file but it's all good now. Can't believe I didn't think of that myself
