How to reorder the navigation start panel links in Start Menu

In the right panel of the Start Menu, you have a link to your user profile, documents, my computer, pictures, music, etc. However, if you enable the predefined links by customizing the Start Menu, they seem to appear in a predefined order that you can't change by simply dragging and dropping. Is there a registry hack to change the order in which they appear? For the sake of argument, let's say I want to move the "Pictures" folder to be the topmost menu item above the link to my user profile.

Also, is there some way to pin a folder to the Start Menu, yet have it work like a cascading menu displaying its folder contents?

Can't be done ... or at least nobody's found a way yet. Too much is set up within the encrypted stylesheets that are the heart of the Windows 7 system.

I thought as much, but thought I'd see if anyone had found a way. Thanks for your reply.

Very simple to move Start menu items

In Windows 7 to reorder Start Menu items on the left side, just left-click on the item and drag it up or down on the list. SIMPLE! And not "Impossible" as many others have said !

probably 'cos your cursor enables the dropdown menu automatically..

switch off the setting temporarily and then drag the Start Menu items to your preferred order, then - switch the function back on again..

    - might work..(??)

    - can you tell I'm confused..??
