    Classic Skin Won't Work

    Hey guys,

I have a problem, as it says in the title. For some reason, my windows classic skin will not work at all when I try to switch to it.

I'll go into Personalization, select Windows Classic, and then after my screen greying for a little while, the taskbar kind of changes to classic, and then windows like screws up and it goes to back to aero in some light blue-ish color.

This is really annoying as sometimes I like to use the classic skin and now I cant.

I'm running Windows 7 RC 1 Build 7100 atm, and if it helps I did an upgrade from Windows 7 Beta Build 7000.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hello ClericX,

It may be from some upgrade issue. You might see if doing a clean install instead may work better for you.

    Sorry,
    Shawn

I understand what you're saying, but a clean install means I lose all my data and that's pretty annoying to do, do you think a system repair might fix it?

Nope! MS even recommended a clean install for the RC.

Sorry, you cant get this solved without a clean install!

It would be hellishly painful to solve a problem that's related to upgrading I guess!

Well, that sucks. I guess I'll just live with it then.

    Thanks guys.

    Cleric,

You can give a Repair install a try to see if it may fix it without losing anything, but most likely it will take a clean install.

    Hope it works for you.

Thanks for the advice. Right now it's not bothering me to the point that I'm ready to wait out another 1 ~ 2 hour upgrade and lose some settings, but if it gets to that point it's nice to know there's something I can do.

    Wow...

Well, it finally bothered me enough that I tried a repair...

And guess what... It didn't work >.< I still can't use classic. The best I can do is disable the themes service when I want classic, and that classic doesn't even look exactly like the themed classic... I guess I'll wait for a new build to come out.

Sorry to hear that ClericX. It looks like you may need a clean install instead to fix it.

For now, I'll have to live with disabling the themes service when I want a classic skin, until a new build comes out or something and that build may fix the problem.
