Locked computer dual monitor

I've seen a thread on this but I couldn't find an answer (there might not be one).

ANYWAYS, when I lock my computer, my right monitor turns to a black screen instead of displaying the background of my lock screen.

The screen doesnt turn off (its not to save power) as I can still move my cursor over to the right monitor.

Does anyone know how to make my locked screen background show instead of just a solid black screen?

Do other notification screens appear on both, eg. log-on, change user, ALT+CTL+DEL?

Nope, on startup it's just a black screen too. I'm not too worried about that though.

Mainly its for aesthetic reasons. When I lock my computer (required when I leave my desk at work, for good reason) I want both screens to display a picture.

If it was for some sort of power save option I could understand, buts its displaying a solid black screen, its not off hah.

I can see what you want but the point is that there's only one of each screen created so you can't display it on both monitors unless you have some kind of cloning device which would have to be working despite the fact the computer is locked. In other words, it ain't gonna happen!

I'm really not sure why you would need it anyway. If the computer's locked what difference does it make whether anybody thinks the 2nd monitor is off, broken, disconnected or whatever? Presumably the whole idea of locking it is to prevent people seeing any open applications not to show off two copies of the same rather dull notification?

Again, its purely a want, not a need. My co-workers were also wondering the same thing, because they have desktops that spread across the dual monitor setup, and would LIKE (again, not need) both monitors to show a graphic.

There's plenty of dual monitor screensavers available for that (just ask Google). It's just not possible to lock the computer and have it act as if it weren't locked!

I dont need it to act as if it wasn't locked.

There must be SOME way to make it so instead of DISPLAYING A BLACK SCREEN, it DISPLAYS A PICTURE.

Win XP did it properly. I can't remember if Vista does the same as 7. But I want it to lock and just show a password box and keep the wallpapers showing.

I know what the OP wants and I want it to.

To clarify, I do not care if its the desktop wallpaper OR if its my custom logon screen background. Just want to be able to set a picture on the 2nd monitor

Unfortunately none of those options have anything to do with the lock screen

I don't have dual monitors, so this is just pure conjecture. With dual monitors, you have a Primary and a Secondary. Is it the secondary monitor that is blanking out when you lock your computer? This might be for security reasons - to obscure what might be displayed on it. I take it that your primary one is showing the standard lock screen.

I'm going to request some advice from users that have dual (and multi) monitor setups to see what they have to say on the matter.

I have dual monitors.

The secondary monitor will turn off when the machine is locked. There is no way to change that, at least using Windows.

There may be a third-party hack somewhere, but none that I am aware of.

Thats the thing, it doesnt "turn off".

It DISPLAYS a black screen. You can move your cursor onto it and see it clearly when the computer is locked.

You're right, I wasn't recalling correctly.

Same deal, though. You may be able to find a hack somewhere, but there is no setting in Windows to do that.

I have been looking and searching this since Vista, and I believe I'm right when I'm saying what you want is not possible. It seems Welcome, logon, logoff, lock, switch user and the screen you get when hitting CTRL + SHIFT + DEL are shown only on display 1, when using extended desktop. When desktop is duplicated, these screens are shown on all displays.

I've also not found any third party software that can show these screens on multiple displays.

In XP when you locked the machine, all you would see are the wallpapers on the screens, you don't see anything else on the screen, no open programs no icons on the desktop, etc.... The Primary screen would have the password dialog box, but that box moves around every few minutes.
