Icon help

I've never really found out why/who/what was deleting stuff out of the installers folder, I just know it used to happen to me a lot more in the past when on XP. Mind you, I was using pretty "aggressive" clean-up tools at the time. I even had the folder completely emptied once!!
When I used Ace Utilities alongwith XP, experimentally I chosen a setting to delete everything out of common use .... the same thing happened for me, too. But at that days I was not too serious about it ... just formatted and reinstalled XP :o

how do i do an image back up... how much space does that take? I really dont want to reinstall all of my programs... i can live with the eset and supreme commander... even the itunes... but the office is bugging me...
My Cdrive size is 40.1 GB, and the backup size is 22 GB . It is stored in a separate drive. I follow http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html .

BTW , I hope you have the windows 7 installer DVD . If no, to restore the backup, you will need the recovery disk, download it from the neosmart files :D

It might help you if somehow you got your hands on the Office '07 and the ESET Nod32 AV installer folders if that is what you are running. You could then see if your icons come back!

What does it say ? Whether it is saying you need permission or something else ?

If pasting is really impossible, go for the last option, that is reinstallation of the affected programs .

That, as they say, is not a good move. Certain things will look for certain things and if no longer owned by the system (think of it like salary, it's your money but the government gets to pinch what they want without you giving permission!!) will screw up eventually. The "secret" of take ownership is to only use it when and where you need to.

ok i shall untake permission then... target: access is denied or specified file path does not exist...

Turns out i cant reinstate Windows ownership of the files

[Edit]
I have fixed my office icons.. i had to manually remove office and then reinstall it... but what caused the files to go missing..

Some "cleaners" will rip out (erase) things they are not supposed to, and Windoze will let them. That's not to say what you are using is bad, it appears that you are "careful" with your clean-up methods. Let's just say it's a Windoze thang. Or, as I've read elsewhere "The ways of Windows are truly mysterious, Grasshopper".

Ok. Live with it. But (no sarcasm meant or intended here) when you need to re-install you've learnt a lesson.
And, let's be honest, any help you get here, there, anywhere is by other people basically ballsing up their system while trying things out!

Taking ownership of the entire windows folder is not such a big difficulty, pal. Think about the xp era ... there was no trusted installer to own the files you bought with your hard earned money :roflmao:

Just dont mess with it. If change or remove any part of your windows file, do it carefully.

BTW, I leave with the ownership of my files :D

Not saying its difficult, just not big. Or clever. As for XP era, I thought we was on 7. Must be on wrong forum :zip:

i think that it was a culmination of messing around with alot of things and checking what windows seven can do... this is the coolest windows around... we must leave this thread open untill someone finds the reason why my installer file are missing... otherwise i think the problem is solved...

Turns out this same problem messed me over with my updates..
