logon background & 1280x800

anyone know of a way to make windows look for a specific background resolution for 1280x800?

I use a tablet, which means sometimes I am booting in 1280x800, sometimes in 800x1280. Stretch-to-fit looks awful.

No, it's not possible. Just look for the right screen resolution wallpaper. (I use an iPad, but the wallpaper works fine.)

The problem is that my resolution changes, and almost all images look completely wrong when stretched from 1280x800 to 800x1280...

There is a way to change the name of the file being used to make it appear only when a certain resolution is used. I recommend saving a version of the image you use that is rotated 90 degrees. Okay, I just think it would look cool that way, but moving on. The manual way that is in the tutorial the other guy linked to shows how to name the files properly. I don't know why you have to download anything for that version, as the method I use doesn't, but it looks like it might just be away to avoid changing the registry directly. The method I use can be found here: Customizing the Default Windows 7 Login Screen | Windows 7 News

I recommend using this tutorial. Brink is great at doing these.
In step 11, you can define which image can be used at which resolution. So if you dont like the stretch to fit, just make a new image that will accomodate for your resolution(s) you will use.
You could even use a totally different picture if you wanted, as long as its named accordingly.

except that windows only notices specific 4:3 resolutions.

As I said in the OP, I need 1280x800 and 800x1280

Not at all... In my laptop I got a 1366x768 px res screen and the tutorial worked perfectly for that one. Just follow it exactly as it is and you will notice the difference.

If windows still not use the background as it should, use the backgrounddefault.jpg only with the desired res.

Eh, sorry, but it doesn't work for 1280x800.

I wrote the following autoit script to fix this problem.
