Slight problem ..
Windows 7 doesn't recognize a Photoshop psd file as an Image ...
So the previous reg. fix doesn't work for psd files.

But, for Irfanview users .. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\IrfanView.psd\shell\ …
can be modified to add
Photoshop as an alternative Program.

Thanks for your help. I wanted to edit with Photoshop and default (Dblclick) view with Windows Photo Viewer. After researching for an hour or so I found your link. In my case I recently moved from XP to a new mashine with Windows7. It's only taken a month of booting from the old XP drive in the meantime to get to a comfortable working place on Windows 7. IMHO some of the Windows 7 stuff seems to be an extreme case of control issues on M$'s part, like we can't make decisions on our own.

A word of caution for the neophyte, copy the default value to a document, before you change it.
That way you can paste it back and make sure things are still working, especially when they don't go right on the 1st, 2nd, or in my case 12th try. After finally getting the typing and program right it worked like a charm.

Finding the path took a bit of scrolling until I realized it wasn't System.File
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ SystemFileAssociations \ image \ shell \ edit \ command

The default in my case was:
"%systemroot%\system32\mspaint.exe" "%1"
The new path is now:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Photoshop Elements 7.0.exe" "%1"

Thanks again.
