[How To] get aero glass in firefox (completely)

In this how to i will show you 2 methods of applying aero glass to firefox not only to the frame but the contents as well using two very easy to use items. Some of the styles are only supported in firefox 3.5 or higher so keep that in mind if you are using an older version.

-Method 1-
Method 1 is suitable for version of Firefox lower than 3.5 but can be used in 3.5 as well.

The first thing i use is a Autoit script that was orginally created to give the content of the command prompt aero glass. The script will apply glass to any color except white, and can be run as a script in Autoit or be made into an executable. For this how to i will be showing how to make it into an executable for firefox.

The second thing i use is a firefox plugin called Stylish this will allow you to apply the colors needed for the glass. If you wish aditional styles can be downloaded from userstyles.org - Restyle the web!. All source is provided so you can alter if needed or create your own.

In the attachments at the bottom you will find the two styles i used for creating the style for firefox and one style for the Gooogle search site. The 32 bit and 64 bit executable made from the Autoit script is there as well for those who choose not to make their own.

Lets get started!

Step 1. Download Autoit either the installer or the self extracting zip file. (i chose the zip)

2. Download the Autoit script file AutoIt v3 - Forums (right click and save).

3. Open the script you just downloaded with notepad.

4. Change cmd.exe in line 31
Code:
If _ProcessGetName(WinGetProcess($lParam)) = "cmd.exe" Then
to read firefox.exe
Code:
If _ProcessGetName(WinGetProcess($lParam)) = "firefox.exe" Then
and save the file.

5. Startup Aut2exe.exe or Aut2exe_x64.exe if your on a 64 bit system. (in startmenu if installed or where you extracted if you chose the zip).

6. Browse to where you saved the script, then browse to where you want to save the executable and give it a name, check x64 if your compiling for a 64 bit system as shown.

7. Install Stylish and restart firefox if needed.

8. Download the three styles i attached to this post

9. Open one of the three styles you just downloaded with note pad and copy the entire contents.

10. Now in firefox click on Tools > Add-ons > User styles and click the write new style button at the bottom right corner.

11. At the top of new style window give it a name and paste what you just copied in step 9 into the main area and click save. The style will automatically be enabled.

12. Repeat steps 9 through 11 using the other 2 styles.

13. Close firefox and start your executable you made earlier.

14 Now you can start firefox and google should look like this.

-Method 2-
Method 2 is Only for Firefox version 3.5 and higher.

This is the quick and simple method, it only requires firefox 3.5 with the stylish add-on.

Step 1. Install Stylish.

2. Install the glass user style located here.

3. Install the google glass style located here.

Note   Note
The "Google search glass style" is only for google.com if you use another domain please use the "Google glass international style"

There are a few plugins for glass, but the thing is none of them make the contents glass, that is where the Autoit script comes into play. You could use the Autoit script script with the plugin of your choice and skip the stylish part if you like. Mainly i chose to use stylish so i have control over how the glass is used in the contents.

Works the same for both so long as you edit the javascript on glasser. Can autoit do gradient fades?

It applies the windows aero glass to colors not images. For example the gradient at the top of your google screenshot if that is image then no, if it is done with colors then yes. You can use Stylish to change the image with a transparent one or change it to use colors so the Autoit script will apply glass.
