Windows 7 and realtek

Hi!!! I`m new here. I have a problem with Logitech 5.1 system. I have only 2.1 sound. I searched info all over the internet and found that installing realtek driver can help me. But I use windows 7 original drivers and I wanted to know can I realy install realtek driver not harming my computers sound? If I`ll install realtek sound driver, can I lose the sound or somthing else can go wrong? Thanks for answers

Hi and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have Realtek onboard audio there would be no problem to install the Realtek drivers.

You also can always revert back to the Windows drivers by uninstalling the Realtek ones, restart and let Windows load the standard drivers.

You could use a free program called Speccy, it lists all your computer hardware.

You can find it here: Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Hi Vyper,

If you are using the on-board sound, then we need to know what motherboard you have. In most, but certainly not all, cases the audio chip will be a Realtek derived device. However, we need to be absolutely certain so that we can provide you with the correct information.

Download and install CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Run the program and select the Mainboard tab. The information we need can be found in the location that I've highlighted.

And Asus says,

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards - P5GC-MX/1333

Realtel ALC883 HD audio on it. And yes if you want it to work properly you need to install the Realtek driver. Follow the link here,

Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version

to get it as the one from Asus is more than a few updates behind.
