I am having the exact same issue as you Bowater...

I bought this Acer 8943G-9429. I made sure it had a fingerprint reader so that I can use the Windows Biometric Device settings. I want to use other software besides the crappy EgisTec/Acer software that comes with the computer.

i can't seem to find a solution. The driver that came with this EgisTec fingerprint reader doesn't seem to be a Windows 7 WCF capable driver.

If you find a solution, please let me know. I may return this Acer laptop because of it. I am very put off by this.

This really pissed me off. I bought this Acer Aspire 8943G-9429 laptop thinking it would work with Windows 7 WBF. I did my research and saw that it came with an EgisTec fingerprint reader. Before purchasing, I checked EgisTec's website to see if their readers work with WBF and they have a press release dated back in 2009 saying their fingerprint readers are working with Windows 7 WBF.

Here's one of the few releases (saying it will work with Windows 7's WBF):
EgisTec Announces Support for Windows 7 for Its Fingerprint Sensors and Software - Company - EgisTec Inc.

Well, I bought this computer with their reader assuming it would work with Windows 7 WBF. Then I get the laptop only to find out it doesn't work with Windows 7.

So, I contacted them on several occasions (by email) asking them where I can get an updated driver that will get this reader working with Windows 7's Biometric Framework (pointing out their press release). Of course they do not reply to any of my emails (sending auto-responses from non-working email addresses). Another example of corporations cutting costs, using crap hardware from unreliable and crap companies.

Of course it works with Acer/EgisTec's included security suite software...which is complete junk. I want to use WBF with this reader and I am pissed about it. This is false advertising.

Try going to Device manager and find the finger print scanner under biometric devices.
    Uninstall and reinstall drivers.
If it still doesn't work try picking a different one by by updating the driver and picking it from a list of drivers on your computer.
    Hope This helps.

You have probably already tried this as well but just in case.
This is the link to an acer driver page with the up to date fingerprint driver about half way down :)
    Good luck.

I know these are still simple suggestions but just in case.
Make sure your biometric scanner is on in biometric settings. I came across them last night and didn't even know you had to turn it on (mine was set to off by default)
And I don't know if you have gone through the process of saving each finger print with windows and saving the password.

    Nathan,

What do you mean; "Your Biometric Scanner is on in biometric settings"

As I said, my biometric settings don't even show that there are any readers installed.

    Ok
i clicked on the start button and typed in the search box "change biometric settings" and there is an option to turn the finger print scanner on or off.
But if its not recognising anything it probably wont work.

    Nathan,

No big deal. I appreciate you trying to help.

It's just that Egistec says that their readers work with Windows7 WBF and they don't. I actually made sure to research the hardware on this laptop before purchasing. After reading their press release, I assumed it would work with Windows 7 WBF. Silly me for assuming a company would be honest in their press releases.

Here is their press release stating that they support Windows 7 WBF:
    http://www.egistec.com/company/newsr...-Software.aspx

They have yet to reply to my multiple emails. Been waiting a week for a reply.

    What a joke & a garbage company.
