Canon LiDE 600F scanner fails to install on Windows 7 64bit

    Hi

My Canon LiDE 600F scanner is failing to install on Windows 7 (64bit) (version 6.1 build 7600).

This scanner works fine on WindowsXP, however.

I spoke Canon about this and they obviously get this complaint all the time and they say that their drivers (which they have failed to up date ) work "just fine" and that it is a problem with Windows 7 itself and that I need to speak to Microsoft (!)

Driver: ScanGear CS version 12.12 (released on: 13-07-2007)
    Download filename: lide600fvst641212ea16.exe
    CanoScan LiDE 600F

Well we all know how hard it is to get technical support out of Microsoft directly...

What should I do phone microsoft? Or is there a special forum that they support?

    Please advise.

    Hi

Eventually I got it to install but...
    a) it has stopped working (and started making "ping-pong noises" every few seconds)
    b) I cant remember what I did last time!

I have found the "Twain32.dll" file on my Windows XP and I have copied it onto my Windows7 (x64) computer... but I am confused - where should I put it??

The noise you're hearing indicates that the driver didn't installl properly and/or the wrong driver is being used for it.

The file you downloaded 'lide600fvst641212ea15.exe' is meant to be used on 64 bit operating systems (which you have). So, copying & pasting the XP's twain driver (which is likely 32 bit) will not make it function properly.

Leave the scanner connected to the computer.
Click Start, goto Computer, right click - then click Manage. Click on Device Mgr and Uninstall the scanner (Imaging devices and camera). Disconnect scanner from computer and reboot.

Let computer boot up and when ready: double click on the downloaded file: 'lide600fvst641212ea15.exe'
This will install the 64 bit driver automatically.
Once setup is completed, plug-in the scanner. Windows will 'detect' and 'install' new device for use.

When dealing with new hardware: always install your software first; then plug-in the new device (windows doesn't like surprises ... must be prepped first ...)
