D drive gone after win 7 install

    Hey guys,

I have a problem which I hope you all can help me with.

I have a samsung n120 and I just upgraded to Windows 7. I installed it on my C drive. My computer came with a C and a D drive. After installation. I can't find my D drive which is really frustrating since before the upgrade I transferred all my stuff to the D drive.

Anyone know how I can get it back?

    Thanks in advance!

Here's a screenshot of Disk Management (D Drive is not even listed there, but it's the one on the far left - 72.01 GB):

Open the disk management right click on the drive and assign it a letter.

    Hey Steve,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Here's what I get when I try that:

Then I would suggest a re-boot and try again.

    myzr7,

Thanks, but I already tried that before I posted here. And I tried it again after your suggestion. Gives me the same error.

If you notice at my screenshot, The unnamed HDD (72 GB) is not listed above. Do you think that has something to do with the error?

Try with this program. That should work. If you do not want to install it, burn the live CD (on the left pane of the webste). As far as I can see, your former D is unallocated space.

    Hey whs,

    Thanks for your help.

This program shows my 6.00 GB partition as primary and the rest (C and D combined) as unallocated and so I can't do anything with it. Then again, I'm pretty bad at this partition stuff so I may just not know how to use the program properly. I tried reading up on it but it goes over my head. Could you tell me what to do please? Sorry for the bother!

Do you think if I installed XP again, it would show up? And then I could merge the 2 drives together before installing Windows 7? But I'd obviously prefer if I did not have to do that as I don't have my Windows XP CD on me.
