Scanner Woes with Win7 & Drivers

I own a Canon 5000F Scanner it's a great scanner but for the past (2) years all I have is problems, mostly delayed loading times. After installing Windows7 x32 the scanner griefs grew I've had to stop and restart WIA and sometimes completely stop WIA otherwise the scanner continues to scan. The scanner only has 32-bit drivers, I'm hoping there is a work around to this problem and also a way again thought a work around I could get this scanner to work on x64 OS ?

To be honest, as cheap as scanners are, I would replace it and avoid the aggravation ...

The lousy ones are cheap :) The good ones are just a little more expensive. Well I'll see if more opinions other wise I may just have to either sell it to which it will work well on Windows XP or get rid of it.

I have a canon 8000f scanner and I'm running W7 64bit, I had to install windows XP mode and run the scanner in there as they don't supply 64bit drivers. Its a bit of a pain waiting for XP to start up before you can scan anything but at least it works and it's cheaper than buying a new scanner.
