    USB Port Problems

    My USB Ports have malfunctioned.

    I have a Sony F Series/Model VPCF114FX.

    So, whenever I connect a usb device to the usb ports (only 2 available on this notebook) I don't hear a usb device recognition sound. However, the peripheral usb device knows it is connected and gets powered (examples: phone gets charged/notebook fan turns on). Regardless, my laptop doesn't pop up any folders from a flashdrive or the cursor won't respond to my usb mouse, etc.

    There are no triangle exclamation marks on any of the USB in Device Manager and all drivers are up to date. I already tried uninstalling them and restarting the computer solution but this did not solve the problem.

    Sony's Tech support told me to back up my files and do a system recovery, which I did to a point before the error occurred and this still didn't solve the problem.

    Are there any other solutions? I'm not too familiar with computer manipulation, so if you say something like "Check your BIOS", I would probably need a walk through >.<;

    Thanks for your help in advance!

    Welcome to SevenForums.
    After 69 reads and no replies I figured what the heck.
    I found this article by googling Windows Seven not recognizing USB devices
    It caught my attention when it stated that he could still charge his cell phone.
    Their were some differences like he got the error balloon device not recognized.
    I read through some of the posts several had no luck but then it seems to have worked for most of the posters, however I'm always a bit skeptical as to the validity of the responces.
    The fix simply required you to unplug your laptop from your ac adapter for several minutes and possibly removing the battery. Then simply re-insert the battery and plug the ac adapter back in >restart your system.
    It might be worth a try, I don't recommend downloading the fix USB devices on the site since they usually send you to a site that will charge you How to fix USB device not recognized in Windows
    I still have reservations about posting this but hope it works. Fabe

    Thank you for replying, Fabe. When I saw this solution, I highly doubted that it would work because I have searched google over and over. Not only that, but the solution seemed too simple compare to other solutions that didn't work provided by many other users and sony tech support.

    But it did!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for replying to this thread!

    Hopefully this isn't just a temporary fix and if it is, hopefully the problem can easily be resolved by the same method!
