    SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec

Hi all, I've been going though posts via search for this help, but had no luck. So now, I'm asking all for help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RC110G and installed W7 RC 32 bit and it went smoothly 'cept for 2 missing drivers. The main one is the sound device as it is NOT being read. I can't get any sound. I spent several hours on the net looking for a compatiable driver, and alot of people ran into trouble with the SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec when they upgraded to Vista. Tested a bunch of drivers (from Sony site and even updated sound drivers from Dell) and none worked.

Even downloaded some program called detective driver to help me find compatiable driver but I'd have to pay $30 to activate the program. I would but Im afraid it might not find it.

    Any help? Thanks in advance.

Yea Ive tried that one also, along with a few others that were associated with Dell with the file name starting with "R" and other numbers.

This may sound silly, but did you run windows update to see if it offers a driver for it?

Did you install what dell calls "notebook system software" & chipset drivers (if its a notebook and sony has something similar)?

(Edit/Added: I wouldn't install Dells Notebook System Software or there chipset drivers onto your Sony, only Sony's equal, if its a notebook and they have something like it for there Notebooks.)

I installed dells notebook system software then chipset drivers all for vista and they all worked, so it might be something to try if you hadn't already.

Unfortunitely, it is a RC, and if windows doesn't have the driver we're all kinda on our own to find one. It sounds like you've tried everything. If Windows doesn't have it, next try a vista one, then xp. Sad thing is you may never get a working driver as its up to Sony wether or not to make a driver for a PC made prior to a new OS.

Don't know about Sony, but with Dell, most all drivers have to be had from them and not the actual manufacture of a device. I too have sigmatel sound, yet I can't go to sigmatel for a driver, it has to be had from Dell.

I would think once Win7 is official, you should check back with Sony Drivers WebPage, first check your exact pc and if not listed, try and find a newer pc with similar sound card and try its driver.

    Good luck
